In response to the London bombings on the 7th July 2005, the government initiated seven working groups, comprised mainly of representatives of the Muslim community, to explore how extremism can be prevented with the help of the Muslim community. The groups were concerned with: Young People, Tackling Extremism, Security and Policing, Regional and Local initiatives, Imams, Engaging with Women and Education Services

The Chairwoman and Deputy Chairman of the AML were invited to be part of the Security and Policing working group. They were subsequently involved in preparing the Report entitled "Preventing Extremism Together" which combined the findings and recommendations of all seven working groups in one document.
After the Race, Faith and Cohesion Directorate moved from the Home Office to the Department for Communities and Local Government in May 2006, the Report and initial Home Office Response to the Report were removed from their websites.

While middle way Muslims continue to be targeted simply for being Muslims and for attempting to enjoy their Article 9 ECHR rights as promised in the Human Rights Act 1998, the AML and the Muslim Safety Forum are currently working with the Home Office with regard to the implementation of the original recommendations of the "Preventing Extremism Together" Report.
