There are needs of members of the Muslim community which only lawyers, in their professional capacity with their legal and objective expertise, can address. Often Muslim clients need to be advised in terms of Shari'ah law as well as UK law. Only Muslim lawyers can provide this service.
Anyone who needs to consult or instruct a Muslim lawyer is free to do so, although at present a practising barrister in independent practice must be instructed by a solicitor and cannot be consulted or instructed directly by a member of the public unless he or she has completed the requisite training and is prepared to accept instructions from a lay client subject to the Direct Public Access rules and requirements as set out in the Bar Council's Code of Conduct.
