Preventing Extremism

In response to the London bombings on the 7th July 2005, the government set up a Muslim Taskforce comprising of seven working groups,  to explore how extremism can be prevented with the help of the Muslim community. The groups were concerned with: Young People, Tackling Extremism, Security and Policing, Regional and Local initiatives, Imams and Mosques, Engaging with Women and Education Services

The President and Deputy President of the AML were invited to be part of the Security and Policing working group. They were subsequently involved in preparing the Report entitled “Preventing Extremism Together” which combined the findings and recommendations of all seven working groups in one document.

AML has also worked with Faith Associates to produce an Anti- Terror guide to assist families and communities affected by the legislation. The guide is available to download here and will form the basis of 2009 country wide road show aiming to inform the public of their rights and responsibilities.
